ContributorJoan King is a transplanted Yankee who lived, married, and raised three children in Atlanta, Georgia. During those years she got her degree in anthropology from Georgia State University. She has been active with a number of public interest groups including the League of Women Voters, Common Cause, and a host of others. She and her husband, Lewis King, moved to North Georgia after the children were grown. However, 12 years ago she became a full time “mommy” once again when her 4 year-old grand daughter, Anna King, came to live with them. Joan is now on the board of Nuclear Watch South, a watch-dog group focused on nuclear safety in Georgia and other southern states. She is also a CASA, a court appointed special advocate for children. She has been writing a guest column for the Gainesville Times for over twelve years. Her archived columns can be found at here, at The Gainesvill Times. |
